BRUTALIST DESIGN MANIFESTO • Page 47 of 156
Brutalism in digital interfaces represents a deliberate rejection of ornamental design. Every pixel serves a purpose. Every line of code has meaning. There is no room for decorative elements that do not contribute to functionality.
The e-ink display becomes the perfect medium for brutalist principles. Its limitations force designers to focus on what truly matters: readability, contrast, and information hierarchy. Colors are minimal. Animations are absent. Only essential elements remain.
This philosophy extends beyond mere aesthetics. It challenges designers to question every element, every interaction, every visual choice. Does this serve the user? Does this improve comprehension? If not, remove it.
